Laptop search in the US, pls answer?
Hello! i'm going to the US soon (from italy) and will be bringing my laptop with me since I'll be staying for a few months. I have nothing to hide in my laptop, I have documents, photos, music and tv series I downloaded off the internet... Would they consider the latter illegal? I mean, everyone downloads tv series... is that a problem? What about music? Thanx Ok thank you guys ;)

I know atleast in europe they wouldn't even search a laptop unless they thought you were printing money or something, not sure about US.

they don't search your laptop-they don't turn it on or open it up- just put it through the scanner with your coat and things

They wont open your laptop but you gotta separate it from your other belongings when you go thru x-ray machine. You need to take off the laptop cover & place it separately too.

They won't be checking the contents of you laptop. They aren't worried about "illegal" downloads. They just want to make sure you aren't going to blow up their plane so they scan it to check whether it's a bomb or not and that's it. You might have to take it out of you bag so they can scan it. But now all you have to do is make sure that it is alone. If you have a folding compartment or protective sleeve then you can most likely leave it in it as long as it is separate from the rest of you carry on. There will also be board with instructions on what to do with you laptop and other suck electronics when you get in line. So just be ready. I would suggest that you have a separate small bag for all of your electronics, But remember a bundle of wires can look like a bomb so unzip the bag before it goes through the machine so they can check it on the other side if they are suspicious.
