Plug adaptors for Italy? Please help!!?
I'm studying abroad and was wondering if anyone could fill me in on plug adapters and voltage converters. I just need to use my laptop and camera while I'm in Italy, not a hair dryer or curler or anything like that. My mom bought me a 50/1600W voltage converter, but I'm not sure it's what I actually need.

I'd suggest waiting until you get there. We were in Italy a year ago. We brought adapters with us, but they weren't the right ones. There are stores that have hundreds of them and they are inexpensive. Take you laptop and camera with you and they will sell you what you need. Have you looked into using Skype while your there? We did and it's a great way to stay in touch with everyone back home. have a wonderful semester.

W stands for Watt, not for Volt, so you should check a different information given on the label. Anyway: look on the transormers of your devices: if they says "50/60 Hz, 120-220 V", you just need a plug adaptor. That's very likable for your camera and laptop, but for appliances like the hairdryer almost for sure you need a voltage converter. Be also careful about the consumption (any device), the Watt part: the W on the label must be not higher than the W on the label of the converter; so if your hairdryer says "2000 W", definitely better not using it with a converter up to 1600 W.

Check the labels on your equipment. Most laptops and digital cameras are voltage compatible anywhere in the world. Italy uses 3 types of plugs. Check out www.kropla.com/worldwide electric guide. This site will tell you everything you need to know about electricity and many other things anywhere in the world. We travel a lot and all our electronics are dual voltage (100-230v 50/60 hz) so we do not need voltage converters. Voltage converters were invented to drive the traveler crazy. It seems you never have the correct one and they are always broken
