I'm going to Italy...how can i keep in touch

I'm going to Italy...how can i keep in touch?
I'm going to Italy for over a week on Monday and I want to know the best way to keep in touch with my family...I have a couple of questions... I have an AT&T cell phone...can I still text or not? Should I bring my laptop for use in the hotel or does it not work?

speak to your cell phone provider they should be able to give you roaming which allows texting and calls. laptops work fine
2 :
texting is always less expensive. get an international phone rate for any phone to be used for calling, it will be cheaper. don't bother lugging your laptop, hotels have computers you can use & internet cafes are everywhere.
3 :
Regarding your phone, you must have a 900/1800Mhz capable model. If you have an American only model (850/1900), non way! Regarding Internet, unfortunately in Italy some lows forbids free access. So you will find wireless only in expensive hotels, they will require you a payment an registration. Very few airports and some filling stations have wireless. Few hotels have an RJ45 connector, but as well, you will be required to register and ti pay.

If you have a world phone yes;texting is easier and cheaper.

I just got back from italy (florence and rome) i have AT&T and didn't get an international plan. Calls were $1.00 a min and to my surprise (just got the bill), texting was free! i have an unlimited plan here in the U.S, but i didn't think it work in Europe! I took my laptop and the hotel and hostel i stayed in both had free wifi if you have your own computer. If you're only going to be there for a week, i would say try not to have too much contact because it might take away from the experience. Enjoy

Apple Products Or Italy

Apple Products Or Italy?
Okay guys, I need your opinions here. In year 9, I have a $7000 trip to Italy. Although, my parents say, If i want an iPad, iPhone, Laptop and all the other stuff i want, I cant go to italy. Would you take the $7000 to buy anything you want? Or would you go to Italy? Mostly all my friends are saying take the $7000 because you can always go to Italy but, What would you choose?

Italy, cause apple products you can get anywhere you are. even as a present. go to italy and experience new things.
2 :
Don't choose Italy, Its Epicly boring. I went for my highschool trip. You just go see landmarks and stuff. It'd choose the ipad and shit
3 :
Apple products, you can go to Italy on your own for less when you're older. Also, if it's for school, you won't have much freedom to go around and do the thing and go to the places you want i'm assuming. Better to take the $7000, spend $3500 on apple products, and save the rest to go to italy after you graduate (maybe your parents can help you pay for it for graduation if it isn't enough.)
4 :
Buy me an ipad you
