Should I bring my laptop to europe?
OK well I am traveling to europe for a little over 2 weeks (Italy and France) and I am not worried of taking it on the plane, etc. The only thing I am worried about is leaving it in the hotel room. I of course would leave it in my locked suitcase, but still! I would hate to lose it and I really want to bring it so I can upload pictures, check weather, etc. What's your opinion? I am staying at good hotels, not holes in the walls FYI

I think you should. Having a computer is always useful no matter if you are at home or halfway across the world.

If you do, make sure to buy a proper wall outlet converter or it won't really matter if it gets stolen.

TAKE IT! of course take it! you could skype and stuff, and find out about things to do! don't even worry for a second about it getting stolen, if you're staying in a good hotel, AND locking it in the suitcase no one is gonna touch! heck even if you wouldn't lock it in a good hotel no one would ever go through your suitcase. i even stayed in crappy hostels and just locked my suitcase, and no one touched anything. however to remember to bring a proper outlet indeed.. haha have lot's of fun!

how do modems work for laptops? i have a macbook. if i bring it to italy and buy some sort of modem here in canada (feel free to suggest any), when im in italy will i get inter net any where i go?? sorry i dont know much about stuff like this.. i am not staying in a hotel. im staying with family.... and they dot have wireless

your macbook should have a wifi card already installed... you dont need to buy a modem... just hook up wirelessly to the internet at wifi spots in ur hotel or throughout italy... i bought an iTouch just for travelling... and always find free wifi spots anywhere I go....

You can buy the modem, but that doesn't mean that you'll have internet everywhere. You will also need an internet provider, OR an area where there is free internet, like a Cafe. But if you want to go to a Cafe, use wireless instead. As far as suggesting a modem, most of them are fine. Cisco makes good products, same with Belkin, Netgear. Modem's shouldn't go more then 30 USD - Since you'll be in a place where there is no wireless, you'll still need an internet provider to get to the internet.

it should work, yes if it goes from the voltage in Europe to the voltage in the us(if that's were you are) then yes it should work hope this helps!

most likely you don't need that Converter Transformer. the vast majority of the laptop power supplies (chargers) are made for an input voltage of 100 - 240V AC, 50/60Hz. Whats the best way to watch movies while traveling
Whats the best way to watch movies while traveling?
I don't have a portable DVD player.Maybe I will get one if its really cheap.I don't have a PSP or Ipod Video.Is there any way I can get lots of movies for a cheap price and to burn them on a CD-R & play them on a portable DVD.I thought about getting an Archos Media Player but it costs too much & I would only use it on long road trips.I do have a laptop that can burn movies though.I won't watch it on my laptop because my laptop got ruined last time I brought it to the airport the hard drive died & the laptop is really heavy.I can't rent movies because I'm going to Italy for 3 weeks. A Media player with a USB port thats affordable would be nice if you can find one.

Use a laptop or borrow one from a friend if you dont have one, and put your dvd's in. Make sure the laptop has a dvd-rom and good battery life. Otherwise get a psp, your own good laptop, or a ipod video.

I live in Italy and use a mobile internet card which i plug into my laptop to do internet. Few weeks backs i traveled to Canada and used this mobile internet card to do internet. I send a mail to one of my friends and he checked the Email header and told me that my location is still showing as Italy. Is it possible ? Does not the mobile internet use the local internet sever and send mails? OR does it connect to my Italian ISP server to send mails ?

Netbooks that run photoshop CS3

I'm going on a study abroad trip to Italy this summer and I'll need a laptop with photoshop. I don't want to take my current laptop (Dell Precision) because it is large and expensive. I need something lightweight because we will be doing a lot of moving around. What are the cheapest netbooks that are powerful enough to run Photoshop CS3?

cause i was doing the dishes and putting them away and i opened up a cuppboard and she had her laptop in it with the battery i closed it cause i thought i needed to dry it more cause i didnt want it dropping on there. then i opened it again to make sure i wasnt seeing things. is this agains the law in italy

Phone cable to ethernet?
I am currently going to Italy, and I am bringing my laptop. I am a gamer so yes i would like to be able to play it. The place that im staying at has no wifi and no ethernet, so the internet runs on phone cable. I am wondering if there is anyway to get internet through phone cable by using an ethernet cable. My laptop only takes ethernet, so I am wondering if there is something i can buy or do to make the phone cable into an ethernet cable or something that would allow me to get internet

Sounds like it has dialup which is practically useless in todays internet world. Might have DSL if it has a modem attached to that phone line which would be awesome. If it has DSL then all you need is a wireless router to hook up to the modem and you'll have wireless. If dialup, it's hopeless.

More danger lurks: European phone systems are not compatible with US-made dialup modems. Furthermore, some hotels have digital phone jacks, which will blow out most standard modems. Hello! i'm going to the US soon (from italy) and will be bringing my laptop with me since I'll be staying for a few months. I have nothing to hide in my laptop, I have documents, photos, music and tv series I downloaded off the internet... Would they consider the latter illegal? I mean, everyone downloads tv series... is that a problem? What about music? Thanx Ok thank you guys ;)

they don't search your laptop-they don't turn it on or open it up- just put it through the scanner with your coat and things

They wont open your laptop but you gotta separate it from your other belongings when you go thru x-ray machine. You need to take off the laptop cover & place it separately too.

They won't be checking the contents of you laptop. They aren't worried about "illegal" downloads. They just want to make sure you aren't going to blow up their plane so they scan it to check whether it's a bomb or not and that's it. You might have to take it out of you bag so they can scan it. But now all you have to do is make sure that it is alone. If you have a folding compartment or protective sleeve then you can most likely leave it in it as long as it is separate from the rest of you carry on. There will also be board with instructions on what to do with you laptop and other suck electronics when you get in line. So just be ready. I would suggest that you have a separate small bag for all of your electronics, But remember a bundle of wires can look like a bomb so unzip the bag before it goes through the machine so they can check it on the other side if they are suspicious.

they don't search your laptop-they don't turn it on or open it up- just put it through the scanner with your coat and things

They wont open your laptop but you gotta separate it from your other belongings when you go thru x-ray machine. You need to take off the laptop cover & place it separately too.

They won't be checking the contents of you laptop. They aren't worried about "illegal" downloads. They just want to make sure you aren't going to blow up their plane so they scan it to check whether it's a bomb or not and that's it. You might have to take it out of you bag so they can scan it. But now all you have to do is make sure that it is alone. If you have a folding compartment or protective sleeve then you can most likely leave it in it as long as it is separate from the rest of you carry on. There will also be board with instructions on what to do with you laptop and other suck electronics when you get in line. So just be ready. I would suggest that you have a separate small bag for all of your electronics, But remember a bundle of wires can look like a bomb so unzip the bag before it goes through the machine so they can check it on the other side if they are suspicious.

So I will be headed to Italy soon. I was looking at my conformation paper and it said the plane was a 764. So my question, I know some models have powerports for laptops and I needed one to charge my laptop? Do the 764's come with ports and also the personal tv's mounted in front of you?

Glitches on burnt DVD's. Need Help
Glitches on burnt DVD's. Need Help!?
I made a couple of DVD's for my mom of her trip to Italy from her laptop, some of them are having glitches. I made the first two DVD's with just 600 pictures & the transitions in between. They came out working just fine with NO glitches at all. Then I made the next two DVD's with 600 photos, the transitions in between & music. I made both the DVD's at different times, but the same ones and they both have the same exact glitches. They aren't bad glitches but they are very noticeable. Is there anything that I can do to change this? If I were to just make another DVD with everything I want on it, it will have the same glitches...as I have already tried. I just want to know what I am doing wrong.

Unless the problem is caused by the music you added, try burning the DVDs at a slower speed. Using the max speed can introduce errors. Try 4x or even 2x and see if that eliminates the glitches.

she makes good money she is buying laptops and planing trips to italy but says she cant afford one now we have been married for 23 years she had an affre three years ago and everything got worse since she says that i put to much pressure on her when i try to talk to her about anything that has to do with us we can talk about our daughter but she wont follow thru with what we agree on she lets our daughters [14] boyfreind spend the night we had talked about it and agreed that its not a good idea but she lets it happen again then kick her out when she would not lie for her mother about it to me

i have a webcam with a mic but the webcam and mic are made with the laptop. It lets me record voice not in msn but on the computer. When i try to send a voice message theres no sound and the mic wont work at all, i adjusted the mic volume its not working.. HELP ?! im trying to talk to my cousins in italy.

Forgot my wep key. what can i do
Forgot my wep key. what can i do?
I went with my laptop to italy and deleted all saved stuff for protection but when i got home i had forgotten my we key! I had made my network hidden. I have a linksys wireless router. The reset buton doesn't work. I pluged it in wired but my computer cant get a wep key. Should i hold a magnet up to it, or what is a wep hey I can use? what should i do? my model is a befw11s4

suggest plugging your laptop in to the router and using a wired connection to get the settings and stuff changed and then resetting up the wireless with a name you remember, rather then use a wep key use a pass key. a word that will make the key for you. so u just remember the password instead

Why do I not belive you? WEP is wireless. Plugging in the wire connects it directly, you dont need a key for that. You hook up the wire, and go to the router's ip address, most likely it will be 192.168.1.1 enter your username and password and change the WEP kep. Reset button does not work. Ethernet cable does not work.. I really dont see that happening. Sorry.

Thats a big NO on the magnet, just to start. If you plug in wired, just log into the router. By default the linksys ip address will be 192.168.1.1 (so http://192.168.1.1 in your browser) and the username and password are both "admin". If you changed it AND your reset button doesn't work, well I suggest a baseball bat and some office space music. If you can get into your router, just go to wireless settings tab and look at your wep key. My suggestion (IF you can get into your router) is use WPA-PSK. Even if your SSID isn't broadcasted, I can usually get a WEP key out of the air in less than 20-30 minutes if you're using your connection. WPA is much more secure. Good luck

here is a laptop from italy, language of windows xp in this laptop is italian, i want to change it in widows xp english version. please help me to sort out this problem. one more thing is that laptop doesnt have cd rom drive because it is amall size lapto. it has only few usb ports,card reader etc but not cd rom drive thats why i cant formate it and upload xp in english. please tell me how should i do that, best answer will get full points.

you wil need to use the control panel to set the region and language. 'ts been a while since i've used xp so i'd have to check, but it's not terribly different to vista or 7, which is also region and language...

right click on the task bar and open the language toolbar and change the language to english. .

Your best bet is to borrow or buy an external cd/dvd drive, plug it into a spare usb port, boot the laptop from the XP installation disc and re-install, selecting English as your preferred language. I think I am right when I say that although you can change the language from English to Italian you cannot change from Italian to English from within windows xp.

You have to download or buy what is called Windows MUI (Multi user interface). Either search the internet for a copy of the MUI or contact a Microsoft dealer.

Check if you can boot from USB..Then maybe you'll be able to install Win Xp from a USB flashdisk..

The correct answer is from Roie,you need to buy a MUI package from Microsoft,it only comes for free with Vista and 7.The settings on language and region will only change minor things not the interface and menus.So either learn Italian or get a MUI package!

I recently bought a laptop in Italy. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VAIO-VGN-NS330J-15-4-Inch-Laptop/dp/B0027P9BSI Sony VAIO, but the keys are in Italian! I fixed the hardware but I would like to purchase stickers to replace the keys. Please note that the number lock & scroll lock are in the same place. I would really apperciate it. Btw, I checked Staples, FutureShop, Bestbuy, etc.. and they don't sell anything like that.. so I'm willing to purchase it off Ebay Amazon etc. Please send links, and make sure it's the exact laptop keyboard: I'm pretty sure it's this KEYBOARD: http://www.jitbid.com/images/lkb-SNYLA.JPG

I'm going to Italy, and i need to bring my Laptop. Do most Hotels in italy have internet conections?

I wouldn't say most. I would say some. Big and small chains, they all have uptodated the internet connections and you should be pretty safe in any of them. As far as independent hotels (or lodgings at large) are concerned it's a 50-50 chance. In any case, the simplest thing you can is to contact them directly by email and find out as it's obviously too hard (at present) to be specific for evey single accommodation. Some have wi-fi too but again, it changes from hotel to hotel.

Pretty much all 3-5+ star hotels have internet connections, either through wireless or through cable. The fewer the stars though, the less chance they have internet, although most do have a computer with internet access you can rent from the hotel... Even 1 star hotels have this option. Enjoy!

I just got back from there last week and didn't have in-room connections. I did find a lot of internet cafes in Rome that were very reasonable to check e-mail. The USB ports were disable so I couldn't upload images to my website. My hotel in Florence had a connection in the lobby. The one in Venice was Wi-Fi and no problem at all. So I guess I was 1 for 3. If you are making solid plans for hotels I would defiantly e-mail them and ask their connection abilities.

I wouldn't say most. I would say some. Big and small chains, they all have uptodated the internet connections and you should be pretty safe in any of them. As far as independent hotels (or lodgings at large) are concerned it's a 50-50 chance. In any case, the simplest thing you can is to contact them directly by email and find out as it's obviously too hard (at present) to be specific for evey single accommodation. Some have wi-fi too but again, it changes from hotel to hotel.

Pretty much all 3-5+ star hotels have internet connections, either through wireless or through cable. The fewer the stars though, the less chance they have internet, although most do have a computer with internet access you can rent from the hotel... Even 1 star hotels have this option. Enjoy!

I just got back from there last week and didn't have in-room connections. I did find a lot of internet cafes in Rome that were very reasonable to check e-mail. The USB ports were disable so I couldn't upload images to my website. My hotel in Florence had a connection in the lobby. The one in Venice was Wi-Fi and no problem at all. So I guess I was 1 for 3. If you are making solid plans for hotels I would defiantly e-mail them and ask their connection abilities.

Cheap graphic t's?
I love.love.love the graphic t's from like delias and rue 21. But i cant find rue 21's t's on the internet and i have to do internet shopping because im in italy on my laptop and need to mail all my clothes for shcool to the U.S. and delias is tooo expensive. but i love the ones that have like power rangers and ninja tutrles and peace signs. k; thank you!

Using my US Laptop in Spain and UK?
I expect to stay in Spain for 4 months and also travel to other European countries (U.K., Italy and France). I am concerned about being able to the Lenovo Thinkpad that I got recently. I know that Spain and most of Europe operate at 220 volts and I may need a transformer to use personal appliances like electric hair dryers, shavers etc. I am looking for specific suggestions from expats who have lived in Spain. Thanks for your insights.

I would love to buy an Asus laptop (N73Jq) for the great performances but since I hate Microsoft and Linux, is it possible to install Snow Leopard on this laptop? Will it cost me a lot? (I live in Italy) Thank you so much!

Will it be possible? Probably. Is it legal? No. Apple's license only allows you to install Mac OS X on Apple-branded computers. Is it easy? No. Apple uses a new technology called EFI to boot, instead of the BIOS that PCs have used since 1983. This means that you need to do some major reconfiguring of your computer just to get OS X to boot up. Will it work nicely? No. Apple only releases drivers for the hardware that they support. Since they probably don't support your motherboard or sound card or network card or graphics card, support for those components will be buggy- if it works at all.

You can only install Snow Leopard on Apple MacIntosh computers. Some people try to create these "hackintoshes" on other types of computers, but it takes an extreme amount of technical knowledge.
3 :
You can run snow leopard through virtual machine on windows, but there are different things you should keep in consideration: -The hardware drivers with mac osX is pretty limited, so you might end up having a laptop with the sound not working, or something else. -Try virtual machine, it allows you to run Mac OSX in windows 7, and if you're willing to do so make sure your laptop's processor is an i5-520M or from a higher segment so that it has Virtual Hardware Acceleration supported, and you won't notice a lot or no lag at all (depending on the tasks you had in mind for max osx)... - You can also search for laptops completely compatible with Mac OS-X and not use virtual machine at all, or find the drivers needed to run it on an asus laptop, so you can install the drivers needed.

What should I get for my birthday
What should I get for my birthday?
So I have a few options.... two years from now I can go to Europe on a trip. It includes going to Austria, France and Italy for 10 days. I have always wanted to go to Europe. However, if i don't go to Europe then For this birthday I could potentially get a laptop. So I am not sure what to get. Has anyone been to Vienna or Florence?? Thanks

I would go to Europe. That would give you far better memories than a Laptop. I would get a camera and have some money and than take lots of pictures. Than buy things to remind you of your trip. Plus Easter is coming up in a month. You could all ways ask for the Laptop then. But by then the trip will be too late. Have a happy birthday!! 4wheels

I think going to Europe is the better choice! I live in Vienna and I've been to France and Italy several times, and I think that if you've never been there before, it's definitely worth a visit! Especially Florence is a really beautiful city! And there's also a lot of great other places in Italy, and France as well! But on the other hand, I got a laptop for my last birthday, and I have to say it was one of the best presents I ever got... So why don't you get a laptop for this birthday and the trip to Europe for the next, as the trip would be two years from now, anyway? And if you want both but your parents won't pay for it, I suggest you take the trip because even though a laptop is expensive, it's certainly cheaper than the trip, so if you save some money you'd probably be able to afford a laptop, but you'd have to save really a lot of money for the trip! I lost all photos from a couple of years. this includes a trip to africa, italy, and various family meals and outings, and first year of uni. My laptop hard drive was wiped! What could be worse?!

I know that they are out there because a friend of mine was doing the photography for a wedding, saved it in her laptop, it all erased, then she paid around 50 dollars to get them all back. I am so sorry, when my son was born i took photos of his first few hours and the chemist ruined the film, i will never be able to replace them. Last month i lost a gold ring in the street, it slipped off my finger, it was a family heirloom and been passed down through my family for over an hundred years, so i know what its like to loose something precious knowing that you can never replace them

The storage isn't too bad on an iPod touch I have a 32 and it's not filled with 32 videos, 500 songs, 6000 pictures, and 150 games. And there's a 64gb if you need space. I'd say get an iPod. I love mine. I don't know how people live without one. =] so they're the same

Why wont my iphone 4 connect to wifi?
So in england nd italy my wifi was working perfectly. Now in my home my wifi is only on my laptop acer xp. I type the exact same code on my iphone and it says unable to connect. What am i doing differently. Is my router not accepting it? I already reset the router and restored my iphone. Everything i did. So why not connect???

So in england nd italy my wifi was working perfectly. Now in my home my wifi is only on my laptop acer xp. I type the exact same code on my iphone and it says unable to connect. What am i doing differently. Is my router not accepting it? I already reset the router and restored my iphone. Everything i did. So why not connect???

whats the best laptop
whats the best laptop?
i need a good laptop, im traveling to Italy and i have to get one to talk to my friends and email and stuff. what would be good for a teenager?

That's a very tough question. Different people need different computers. A Mac is your best bet, but you might not want to get something so expensive if you're traveling and could lose it, and you mainly want it for chat and email. To be totally honest, you should get a smartphone like an iPod Touch/iPhone or Blackberry for this. If you really want a laptop, though, I recommend HP and Compaq (owned by HP). They run great in my experience, mine was easy to set up, and it's hard to find something to hate about them. :P (Dell tried to ruin Apple, my Acer died in a few years of a possibly purposeful hardware issue, etc.) Good luck in your search! I recommend talking to a locally owned computer repair shop or another computer expert that doesn't sell computers so that they aren't just telling you things so you'll buy them.

It seems like you are going to be doing some very basic tasks there and for that I recommend a netbook. They are very cheap very portable and can easily handle tasks like email, voip, web chat, etc. You might not like the keyboard though. Take a look at the Asus EEE series and the HP Mini 1000's.

Next year ill be going to Italy for 6 months on a student exchange and i need a laptop to take over. Im looking for a laptop that can do gaming as well as school work and stuff. I've been looking at the dell studio xps16 but its heating problem bothers me. So yea what laptops would u guys recommend?

I am going on a trip and I have a couple questions about the plane...?
I am going to Italy (8 hour flight) and I am taking the 'Air Transat' plane, and I have a few questions...: 1-Does the plane have tv's on the backs of the seats? 2-Would they allow knitting needles on the plane? Or would that count as a weapon? 3-I am bringing: Laptop, Nintendo DSi, iPod Touch, are there any other ways to pass time on the plane? Thank you for your answers ;)

Daniela - 8 hours to Italy with Air Transat - sounds like from Canada - If you leave from Toronto or Montréal, has to be a night flight - I would recommend to get your meal, a glass of wine then sleep - The morning will be there soon, then landing - If you sleep - the first day in Italy will be ok and be able to stay up until night - If you do not sleep, I guarantee you will go to bed early afternoon in Italy - After takeoff, move your wristwatch 6 hours ahead = that's the time in Italy...

Does TAP (Air Portugal) have on-board power outlets
Does TAP (Air Portugal) have on-board power outlets?
I'm flying in Spring to Italy via Air Portugal cause it's the cheapest. Do the flights typically have an outlet on the armrests for laptops and such. I'm wondering if I should invest in a plug for my MBP for the trip. Also, when on board, how old do you have to be to order a drink. Just curious.

Will I have trouble powering my Laptop in Europe
Will I have trouble powering my Laptop in Europe?
I will be going to the UK and Italy this fall. Will a plug converter (does not reduce power voltage) work for my laptop(HP Pavilion)? And are the car adapters the same in Europe as in USA?

First Europe is not same adaptors as US, You will need a convertor easy to buy at any Source, As for using Laptop my Son has done this most hotels have either connections in rooms or a place where you can go and use their Computer free. I have done this so I have been there. I would add I was in UK my son was in Europe. It all depend on size of Hotel.

I'm pretty sure Europe uses 220 volts instead of the 110 volts that we use here in the States. I would suggest getting a 220v to 110v adapter for your wall connections. As far as the car connection, European cars have the same 12 volt cigarette lighters that American cars have, but if you're renting the car, just make sure you specify ASHTRAY and LIGHTER as an OPTION because not all cars have cigarette lighters in them. Having said that, you need not have to worry, as the adaptors now-a-day come with universal rating, i.e. ranges from 110-230V. The only thing you need to take with you is a plug coverter (US to UK) -- US looks like this l l, UK looks like this l ' l. The car adapters are the same -- they all run on 12V batteries with the same universal sockets.

Dell laptop computer problem
Dell laptop computer problem?
I have a 2007 dell laptop computer. I am currently in Italy using a simple adapter to plug it into the wall but no converter. I've been here for a month and have had no problems until now. First, whenever my power cord was plugged in, after a few seconds my screen would go really dark. Now, even when I boot it up sans power cord, it still goes dark after it starts up. You can still see everything on the screen, but just barely. I can only see enough to power it down. Does anyone know what may be causing this/how I can fix it?

Hi there, Have you tried booting it into safe mode? Try that, If you still can't see the screen and your Dell doesn't respond to fn + screen brighter key (above the number keys) then maybe the screen backlight has blown. Try with another computer to go to Dell's user forum to see if you can find anyone else having this problem. Hope it's not the backlight.

the adapter might be slowing power, check the voltage/amps on the adapter and make sure its not too low Or keep your kids away from the brightness settings... lol

Whats one of the most beautiful things you've seen
Whats one of the most beautiful things you've seen?
Person, place or thing? Person- My mother. I think she is the most beautiful person in the world, inside and out. She's pretty awesome :) Place- It's a tie between Sweden and Sicily- Italy. Swedish people are seriously some of the nicest people I've met! Sicily is just absolutely gorgeous. My cousin took me around from 6am till 3am, it's one of my best memories ever! Thing- My Laptop! Lol, you can pick one if you'd like!

Last week it was raining a lot and when I was driving back home from a few errands on the 24th, I looked over and saw the clean, clear blue sky, with the huge mountains covered in white in the distance. It was gorgeous, if only for a moment. I went to Victoria, BC during a cruise a few months ago, and so far it was the most beautiful city I've ever been to.

person- hmm i couldnt not really recall anyone but then i read urs and it clicked in ma nogin, like duh! so i would say my grandma for her inner beauty of a heart, her determination refusing to put "dis" in her ABILITY...her outside on the other hand ehh she is old and wrinkly and creeps me out cuz she can get passed our security barkin dog, the opening of our door without a peep and make her way to my room thru the wooden hall that at certain points it will creek on u. i'll b on my computer and then all of a sudden in the reflection there she is smilin at me with her dentureless smile lol *shivers* old and young lil girls scare me :( place- grand canyon tho i felt cheated out of seing it. it looked sooooooo freakin fake lol the colors were so not bright. sky looked fake as well as the sides of the canyons. I wanted to just walk to the edge and give it a lil poke to c if it was a bilboard or something. thing- my baby ducks duck dodgerz and quinn "quinny" jonez...at the time they were small but now their big and r yappers outside :D
