The only issue will be service for warranty work.

You might have a power supply adapter issue. Buy a laptop that shows 110/220 Volts on the power supply. Then buy the appropriate PLUG adapter, so you can plug that in back home. That adapter should cost just $20. It should not be one of the transformer style of adapter. It would work, but why use a transformer when you don't need it. Look at Toshiba FIRST. Buy the way, you might check for that availability of tech support for the brand that you BUY in Italy. So if you do buy a Toshiba, learn about their tech support service in Italy for a computer that was BOUGHT in the USA. Visit http://www.toshiba.it/ and read all about it. Your second choice would be HP. Have a great trip in the USA. If you visit New York, go to the Statue of Liberty, but get there very early in the morning to catch the first boat. The lines can be very long.

before you get there you should update your antivirus software, check to make sure that your power adapter is dual voltage and you can buy an adapter for the european style outlet when you get there, or you can look for one at sharper image but those are kinda expensive compared to waht you can get them for in italy, the only other thing i could forsee is the language barrier between you and your Internet Service Provider and that warranty issue, but i live in germany and have been able to find reps for those countries easily so no big deal there
